WHAT CAUSES CARPAL TUNNEL?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome arises from the compression of the median nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. Several factors can elevate the risk of developing this condition, including repetitive hand and wrist movements, forceful gripping, prolonged vibration exposure, wrist injuries, and certain health conditions like diabetes and arthritis. Individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome often experience symptoms such as numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in the thumb, index, middle, and part of the ring finger.

Neurostructural chiropractic care offers a potential solution by focusing on identifying and addressing underlying structural imbalances in the neck, shoulder, and wrist that may contribute to nerve compression and altered biomechanics, aiming to relieve pressure on the median nerve and improve overall function through gentle adjustments and targeted therapies.

Stretching & Strengthening

Chiropractors recognize that nerve signals travel from the spine to the rest of the body. Misalignments or restrictions in the cervical spine (neck) can potentially affect nerve function down the arm. Therefore, they may perform gentle, specific adjustments to restore proper spinal alignment and improve nerve flow.

Dr. Bako will provide guidance on proper posture and workstation setup to minimize stress on the wrists and hands during daily activities.

Dr. Bako may also recommend specific stretching and strengthening exercises for the wrist, hand, forearm, and shoulder to improve flexibility, stability, and nerve function. Examples include wrist flexor and extensor stretches, nerve gliding exercises, and grip strengthening.
